The Varla Eagle One is one of many e-scooters available on the market. But it's not your average scooter. For one thing, it's a more powerful commuter. With a top speed of 40 mph and a 40 miles range, the Eagle One will last you for hours, sometimes even days.

But this is neither a performance scooter nor a commuter. It's somewhere in the middle, allowing you to take a few detours on your way to work.

So, how well does it perform?

Here's a complete Varla Eagle One review looking at all the technical aspects of this e-scooter.

Varla Eagle One Review

In this Varla Eagle One review, we'll look at some of its key features. Our research found that the Eagle One is suitable for both commuting and off-roading. However, it's not a complete performance scooter. So, use it lightheartedly in extreme conditions.

Varla Eagle One Technical Details

Motor/Power

The Varla Eagle One features a 2000W dual brushless DC motor of 2 x 1000 watts. This motor power is what enables the Eagle One to reach incredible speeds of up to 40 mph.

In case you didn't know, brushless motors are the latest developments in motor technology. They don't produce as much sound as their brushed counterparts. And they operate at all speeds with high efficiency, reducing heat and energy loss.

The max speed is a suitable choice for commuting as well as recreation. What's more is that the motor can handle overweight people's load, up to 265 lbs.

This high-speed motor can climb inclines as steep as 30 degrees. It's also highly efficient, making use of up to 86% of its total energy. This is what sets this Varla Eagle One electric scooter aside from similar models. It saves up on life and lasts longer than other scooters.

Battery/Range

Housed within the Varla Eagle One is a large 52 V 18.2 Ah battery. This battery can last you about 40 miles on a standard-setting. Of course, this number will reduce depending on the power setting, weight, and the slope of the road.

This range is suited for most commuters and will likely last you a day or two. But while the battery will last you a while, it does take some time to charge. To be more specific, it takes 9 hours to get to a full charge. You can cut down on charging times by half by using two chargers.

In addition to that, Varla Eagle One also features smart power management. It uses short-circuit protection, over-charging protection, temperature resistance, and even over-discharging protection.

Moreover, it shuts off when the voltage is too low or when the current is too high.

Structure & Suspensions

The Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter has quite a rugged construction. While not a performance scooter, it's certainly designed to go beyond the road. This scooter weighs 77 lbs and acts as a great urban companion. Its frame is made from forged aluminum and is painted jet black with red accents.

It has an IP54 waterproof rating. So, it works well in the mud. But don't use your electric scooter in the rain. It also protects itself against dust ingress, a common problem among cheaper commuters.

In addition to that, the front panel features an LED display with riding statistics and a simple finger-throttle.

As for the suspension, it uses a dual-spring suspension system. Dual-rated springs are generally stronger than single-rated ones. And as such, they will hold up against impact and shock much better. In addition to that, this scooter uses 10x3 inches pneumatic tires, which add an extra layer of suspension.

Led Display & Lights

In our Varla Eagle One review, we found a few built-in light setups. These were designed to increase visibility for both you and other drivers. The Varla scooter features a dual LED headlight at the front. However, it's relatively low-profile. So, you can't see too far with it.

Additionally, there's a button light on either side of the deck with a low visibility range. These lights won't help to illuminate much of your path. However, they do inform other drivers of your presence.

There's also a single reflector on the rear fender. It's highly recommended to install more lights on the Varla Eagle One.

Braking System

The Apollo Explore Electric Scooter has a unique brake combination. It uses hydraulic disc brakes on both its front and rear wheels. Hydraulic disc brakes are famous for their incredible stopping force and higher efficiency. They also prevent wheel lockup to a significant extent.

What's more, is that the Varla Eagle One uses regenerative motor brakes in its rear wheel. Regenerative brakes are much more efficient and help conserve braking power.

All in all, the Varla Eagle One has incredible braking capabilities. However, the rear disc brake is slightly harder to adjust. So, be careful when you're making adjustments.

Tires & Wheels

Tires affect everything from the suspension, the traction, and the off-road performance. The Varla Eagle One uses 10x3 inches pneumatic tires on both its front and rear wheels. 10 inches is a suitable size considering this is a premium commuter. It's not big enough for high-performance applications such as mountaineering.

Since the tires are pneumatic, you can expect some level of suspension. You can run the tires at lower pressure to help overcome obstacles. Or you can run it on high pressure to provide maximum suspension. Pneumatic tires are much better than solid tires, but they're not entirely puncture-proof.

Comparison With Another Electric Scooter – Apollo Phantom

So, the Varla Eagle One Electric Scooter has a lot to give. But how does it compare against the Apollo Phantom?

Here's a quick comparison:

The Apollo Phantom has a more powerful motor, 2400 watts to be exact. To add to that, it has two engines of 1200W each. This motor lets it reach top speeds of about 38 mph. So, it's a more powerful vehicle than the Varla Eagle One.

Apollo's e-scooter has the same range and will run for 40 miles on a full charge. However, it takes a lot longer to charge up (13 hours). That's a fair pay-off because the battery is 52V 23Ah. Both the Varla scooter and the Apollo have an aluminum frame, though they differ slightly in composition. As for suspension, both use dual-spring suspension and air-filled tires.

The lights on both e-scooters are situated at similar locations. Moreover, Varla uses two hydraulic disc brakes paired with a regenerative electric brake. So, it is a better braking system than Apollo in this aspect.

When it comes to tires, it is also a tie with 10x3 pneumatic tires for both electric scooters.

Final Word

The Varla Eagle One is a premium commuter that makes a great urban companion. It's not just made for the road either. This 2000W e-scooter can withstand light abuse and water damage, making it a great choice for light off-roading.

Varla's mission philosophy is to make commuting fun and enjoyable. And the Varla Eagle One fits right into that scheme. In our Varla Eagle One review, we found that it takes away the mundanity of public transport. We love it, especially for its long-lasting battery and off-road performance.

Choose this scooter if you like to explore but don't want to commit to off-roading.
