How to Make Electric Scooter Faster in Six Ways

Spread the love

Do you want to know how to make electric scooter faster? You might be wondering about this because you have already pushed the limits of your electric scooter, but you can still feel that it has more to give.

If that’s your case, then the next question is, how do you do it properly? You are definitely asking the right questions because, of course, you should not mess with the default hardware of your scooter, just in case you destroy something and void the warranty.

Today, we are going to talk about the different ways on how you increase the speed of your electric scooter. Actually, there are six ways that this can be done. As you might have noticed, we have a lot of ground to cover. So let us get started!

Can You Make Your Scooter Go Faster?

In order for you to modify your scooter to be faster, it has to be an electric scooter that was designed to just like be a model that is powered by gas. The difference is that it has a frame design that is step through.

Also, your scooter has to have a deck and seat where you can put both of your feet on it. What is great is that these models can reach up to 40 miles per hour. Definitely, that is a significant increase from the default 20 to 25 miles per hour of a regular electric scooter. As for gas-powered scooters, they can run for 50 to 100 miles per hour.

In short, if you want to make your scooter faster, just make sure that its design closely resembles that of a gas-powered one.

Is It Possible to Remove a Speed Limiter?

Definitely, the speed limiter of your electric scooter can prevent you from going any faster or even reach the top speed of your scooter. Since we are talking about speeding up your scooter, it is safe to say that you have to remove it, right?

Not necessarily. Keep in mind that the speed limiter was put there for a reason. Obviously, it is for your safety. Just like any other means of transportation like buses or cars, they also have speed limiters based on how fast they can go according to the law. Therefore, for you to follow the law, just keep that speed limiter on.

With that decided, how can you reach your maximum speed?

The key is to maintain proper speed. In this way, the speed limiter will most likely not kick in. However, if you really must take it off, just make sure that you are driving on a not-so-busy road. But, again, your safety is the priority so better keep it on and just maintain a speed that you like.

How to Make Electric Scooter Faster

Let us now talk about the modifications or hacks that you can do to increase the speed of your electric scooter. Then again, just like any other modifications, always check with your manual if you can do this because you have to make sure that you do not destroy any default mechanisms in your unit.

1. Remove the Speed Limiter

This is the very obvious one, and we have discussed the pros and cons of doing this. However, the truth is, removing the speed limiter can really increase the speed of your electric scooter.

Just keep in mind that when you remove the speed limiter, it can make your battery life drain much faster. Hence, just to be safe, always take your charger with you.

2. Increase the Battery Power

This has a lot to do with power. Of course, if you have a limited power source, then there is not enough power to make you go faster. You can increase power by adding voltage. All you have to do is to replace your current scooter battery with a more powerful one.

3. Add an Extra Battery

If the voltage is not enough, you can simply add another battery. Keep in mind that physically adding a battery does not increase speed. In fact, it can only hold a maximum speed at a longer time. In this way, you can maintain a high speed that can cover a lot of road in just a short amount of time. Be careful with the wiring if you don't want have to fix your electric scooter few days later !

4. Add a Third Battery

If the previous way is still not enough for you, then you can add another battery. However, you have to purchase another port for this because not all electric scooters have the capacity to accommodate a third battery.

Also, this can be a bit tricky because you have to make sure that the batteries will not overpower the scooter, which can result in a short circuit.

5. Change the Sprockets

You can replace your sprockets at the front with longer sprockets. As for the ones at the rear, you can put shorter ones. Doing so will add a few extra miles per hour.

Keep in mind that it is still not about increasing the speed per se, but the miles per hour. So, take that however you want to, and just gauge if the extra expense and effort are worth it.

6. Rewind the Motor

For this one, you have to look for the coils for the brushed motor. What you can do is to rewind them. By doing so, you get to decrease the windings that occur with every coil. Therefore, when it decreases, there are more revolutions per minute, which results in less torque.

This also requires a lot of caution because this modification is advanced. Therefore, make sure that you properly do this so as not to ruin your scooter.

Final Thoughts

Those are the ways on how to make electric scooter faster. When doing these tips, keep in mind that you always have to test if they work while you are not on board. Safety is always the number one priority, and no amount of speed can ever make up for accidents.

Also, just to be on the safe side, always consult your manual or customer support if it is okay to add some modifications. In this way, you get to increase your speed but also avoid voiding your warranty.

You really make it appear so easy together with your presentation however I find
this matter to be really something that I think I’d by no means understand.

It sort of feels too complicated and extremely extensive for me.
I’m looking ahead to your subsequent post, I will attempt to get the dangle of it!

#3 ??? Umm yes adding another battery can increase speed but you have to know how to hook them up. If you hook them up in series it will double the voltage but keep the amp hours the same. So 12v turns to 24v. If you hook them in parallel the voltage stays the same but amp hours double which gives you the longer run time. Yes running at double voltage could harm your motor by running more juice than it was intended to carry. I did this to my kids power wheels for years and never burnt up the motors. But it was a blast watching that thing go twice as fast. A risk worth taking ? For me it was but that choice is ultimately up to you.
